Anchor Systems
Scorpio Safety Systems Ltd. can supply, install and test a variety of anchor points that will allow operatives to carry out their work while being fully protected from a fall from height and ensure compliance with current legislation. Using a safety harness fixed to a strategically positioned anchorage point enables an operative to carry out their duties safely and efficiently and can eliminate a potential fall risk.
Safety Eyebolts and Ladder Ties
Safety eyebolts are a simple cost effective anchor point which can be easily installed to masonry and steelwork. They provide a simple, safe and discreet anchor point for workers at height. Safety eyebolts are intended for use with a full body harness with shock absorbing lanyards, and are required by personnel working where there is a risk of a fall.
They are most commonly installed next to windows and are used by window cleaners or painter and decorators to protect from falls whilst carry out their duties. Scorpio Safety Systems supply, install and test safety eyebolts to comply with EN 795. Safety eyebolts should be tested on an annual basis.
Removable eyebolt
A removable safety eyebolt works in the same way as a fixed eyebolt does but has a mechanism that allows the eye to be removed when not in use. A removable anchorage point is ideal when a fixed eyebolt cannot be accepted for aesthetic reasons e.g. at hotels, museums, etc. The socket is permanently installed in the structure of the building and covered by a cap when not in use. When the eyebolt is needed then the eyebolt slots into the socket to provide a safe anchor point. When the anchor is not required then the eye is simply removed and the socket covered.
Ladder Ties
To provide a safe method of working at height from a ladder, it is recommended in BS 8213 that when ladders are being used they should be secured at the base to eyebolts. It is also recommended that the top of the ladder should be secured if possible. Use of ladder ties will help fulfil the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Roof Anchors - Slope Mounted
Roof anchors are a safe, easy and cost effective solution for roof access. They allow instant access and savings on scaffold charges and allow maintenance work and inspections to be carried out safely and in compliance with legislation. All our roof anchors are manufactured to the demanding specifications of EN 795. All anchors can be fitted to new buildings or retrospectively.
Roof Anchors - Ridge Anchors
Whether fitted at constuction stage or retro fitted prior to carrying out repairs, the Ridgeanka is the versatile, cost effective solution to roof safety. Designed for maximum performance, with minimum visual impact, the Ridgeanka provides a unique ridge mounted roof safety restraint.
Roof Anchors - Loft Anchor
Developed for use in situations where access to the roof is gained through a skylight or velux type exit hatch. The Loftanka enables the user to attach to an anchor point before leaving the safety of the loft space.
Dead Weight Anchor
The Mobile Man Anchor is a dead-weight anchorage designed to provide protection for people working on flat roofs and is a good option if there are limited permanent fixing points.
The Mobile Man Anchor is extremely compact, portable and easily assembled. The anchor weights are supplied with suction cup rubber boots that protect the roof and increase friction resistance, enabling the anchor to be used on all roof membranes, even in wet weather.
The Mobile Man Anchor should, as far as is reasonably practical, only be used as a fall restraint system as opposed to fall arrest. When utilised as a restraint system, a fixed length lanyard should be used in order to ensure the operative is unable to reach the leading edge..
Force Management Anchors - Standing Seam Roof
Through reorientation and displacement,Uniline Force Management Anchors are purpose designed and tested to ensure that loads resulting from a fall remain within the structural tolerances of typical modern roof sheets and build detail. Uniline's technically superior Force Management Anchors permit many built up and composite 'Standing Seam' roof systems to be used as structural anchors, by limiting the forces that are generated in the event of a fall to less than 10kN through a built in energy absorber.
This anchor can be used on the following roof constructions:
- Aluminium 300mm to 500mm profiles. 0.7mm material gauge
- Steel 300mm to 500mm profiles. 0.7mm material gauge
Roof sheets should be non-fragile and validated as suitable for installation through testing or calculation.
The anchors are easily fitted from the top of the roof structure using aluminium clamps which do not penetrate the roof sheet. The number and size of clamps have been calculated to counter the overturning moment applied by the anchor in the first stage of activation and resist the shear load in the second stage of activation when the energy absorber deploys.
Clamps are available to suit a range of different standing seam roof profiles. All offer non-penetrative fixing solutions.
Compatible with both Uniline and Uni 8 horizontal lifeline systems.
Force Management Anchors - Metal Pitched Roofs
The design of the anchor is neat and unobtrusive, limiting any visual impact to the building. Anchors are constructed from high grade alloy and can be colour coated to match the roof finish.
Aluminium provides excellent future potential for recycling, uses sustainable resources in the production process and has a high level of corrosion resistance. In addition customers benefit from reduced freight charges as consignments of these anchors are lighter then other products and the anchors are easier to handle during installation works.
This anchor can be used on the following roof constructions:
- Composite Panel Roof Systems
- Built Up Metal Profile Roof Systems
Steel roof sheets should have a minimum thickness of 0.42mm, be non-fragile and validated as suitable for installation through testing or calculation.
The anchors are easily fitted from the top of the roof structure using minimal penetrations. Fasteners with benefits for this specific application are used to ensure long term system safety is maintained. The fastener has a high tensile strength even on a very thin roof sheet, to counter the overturning moment applied by the anchor in the first stage of activation. It also has a very high shear strength which is important for the second stage of activation, the deployment of the energy absorber. Finally the fastener is resistant to vibrations and backing out, making it particularly suitable for safety applications on metal roof systems.
The fasteners and anchor are self-sealing having a waterproof washer beneath their head and sealing tape between the base plate and the roof sheet, which provides a complete watertight seal at 20% compression. The tape is resistant to UV degradation and also acts to isolate the roof anchor from the roof sheet.
Force Management Anchor - Membrane Anchors
Anchors are constructed from mild steel and have a protective corrosion resistant coating. The roof membrane can be bonded directly to the base plates and casing thereby providing a neat waterproofing detail. This product was designed with support from roofing contractors to meet with the requirements of manufacturers' guarantees.
The anchor can be fitted to metal decking, plywood or concrete roof constructions from the top of the roof using M8 toggle clamps, mechanical fixings or stud, provided with anti-compression spacers. The length of the toggle bolt can be increased to allow for use in constructions with deep insulation.
The number and size of the toggle clamps/stud have been calculated to counter the overturning moment applied by the anchor in the first stage of activation and resist the shear load in the second stage of activation when the energy absorber deploys.
